Door springs make doors close by themselves.

Reasons for using door springs can include:

- security (e.g. with firestop and smokestop doors)

- power savings

- preventing draughts, noise, etc.

Special requirements

Strict legal conditions apply to the design and equipment of fire-stop and smoke-stop doors. These are helpful to planners and manufacturers so that they can orient themselves from the start to stringent German security regulations. Door springs are mandatory. The safety of the user is always of primary importance, particularly in emergency situations.

The guidelines are based on DIN- or EN-guidelines as well as the those for the authorisation of fire-stop seals as per the Institut für Bautechnik (Institute for Building Technology), DIBt, Berlin.
