As moving components, HUGA door elements are often subject to heavy wear and tear.
To ensure that the door maintains its specific functional qualities, such as fire, smoke or sound insulation, it is vital that it is hung correctly, and that the fittings and sealing elements are in perfect operating order.
Always follow the maintenance instructions provided by the manufacturer of the fittings.
At least once a year (depending on frequency of use) we recommend the following checks and maintenance:
Hinges:
- Unless they are maintenance-free, oil or - preferably - lubricate the hinges with graphite-based lubricant (e.g. Molikote).
Locks:
- Check that the bolt and the latch are working correctly; if necessary pull back the latch and spray graphite oil into the lock case (lubricating the latch bolt lightly will ensure a smooth action).
Door frame seal:
- Replace damaged seals (re-order). Use only original HUGA sealing profiles.
Floor seal:
- Monitor function and closing pressure along the entire length of the floor seal. Adjust if necessary, replace if defective.
Electric door opener:
- Virtually maintenance-free (at most, lightly lubricate anti-thrust bolt joint and surfaces).
Closing mechanism:
- Check the closing action of the door at regular intervals to ensure that the closer is functioning properly. The closing pressure/latching action etc. may need adjusting (refer to manufacturer's installation instructions).
- Lubricate the movable metal components of top door closers.
Immobilising systems:
- Immobilising systems must be kept in good working order by the operator, and should be monitored at least once a month.
- At least once a year the operator must check that all the equipment is interacting perfectly, and either carry out or organise a full service – unless a shorter period of time is stipulated in the approval notification. This inspection and service must be carried out by a professional technician or specially trained person. Extent, outcome and date of periodic inspections must be recorded. These records are to be retained by the operator.
Other equipment:
- Follow the maintenance instructions of the relevant manufacturer

Compared to lacquered timber, DURAT finishes are simple to care for.
Regular care: Use a damp (not wet) cloth or chamois leather (“shammy”) to wipe the surface, then rub dry with a clean dry cloth. Cleaning of normal household dirt: Spray HUGA–clean onto a clean, soft cotton cloth, and wipe over the soiled areas, following the direction of the grain as much as possible. Use a dry, lint-free cotton cloth to work over the pores and grooves again, removing any residues which may have accumulated as a result of spraying and wiping. If necessary repolish with a dry cloth. Cleaning of heavily-soiled surfaces: We recommend HUGAFLOOR Combi-Fleckenlöser for stubborn marks caused by paint, felt pen or glue which cannot be shifted with HUGA-clean.
Please note: The edges should not be cleaned with either HUGA-clean or other cleaning agents. As a feature of DURAT is its well-sealed surface finish, it needs no polish, oil, wax or other surface products.
Flush closing doors
Unified harmony of form
With flush-closing doors, the door and frame become one continuous, unbroken expanse. When closed, the element itself catches the eye, because all the mechanics are hidden away within the clever Tectus hinge. The Ellipse frame harmoniously blends the door with the wall.
Flush-closing doors – a real focal point of stylish interior design for home and work.

Doors and frames do not need any special care. As required, add a squirt of dish-washing liquid or neutral cleanser to warm water. Make sure that the cleaner does not contain any strong, abrasive or alcohol-containing (water-soluble) solvents. Use a damp lint-free cloth to wipe over the surface of the door and frame.
Regardless of the finish of your door, please keep the following basics in mind:
- never let the surface remain damp or wet for an extended period of time,
as timber absorbs water and can warp.
- Wipe damp or wet patches dry immediately, using an absorbent cloth.
- Do not use furniture polish. Some products and polishes can leave greasy
or unsightly smears on the surface.
- To avoid shiny patches, do not use pressure when cleaning.
